
In memoriam: John Giorno (1936–2019)

Giorno straddled boundaries. Early in his career he put art in service to his poetry. Later on, he was more inclined to put poetry in service to his art. His artistic reputation rests on being the “lynchpin” of New York’s downtown art scene, his multiple artistic collaborations and on expanding ideas about what art could be.
