How Mary Cassatt created a school of her own

Upon meeting Degas, the independent minded Cassatt promptly joined Europe’s most ridiculed group, the Impressionists. Her scenes of domesticity attracted American collectors and the first glimmering of acceptance. Robert Hughes viewed Cassatt as “the outstanding woman artist of the 19th century”. Remarkably, this is her first Paris show in almost a century.
