
Bhupen Khakhar: You Can’t Please All

If the newly expanded Tate Modern wishes to be the showcase of international modern art, its exhibition of the Indian artist Bhupen Khakhar is a rocky start. Was Khakhar important just in India or on an international stage? The reviews are decidedly mixed – perhaps the only consensus being the difficulty of understanding the proper cultural context of this work.
