The Soul of Sohlberg

While Munch struggled with his psychological demons, his friend Sohlberg was in raptures about the Nordic outdoors. He wanted to convey his awe at the scale and beauty of nature, his sense of its power. Even though many of his works can be linked to specific locations, he was not trying for realism: “It is [a] landscape of dreams”.
