Pissarro was once thought a second-rate Impressionist. No longer. Although never showy he was notably thoughtful. Careful reflection on what he saw gave his work understated insight. It also gave him a style of “scrupulous completeness”. Pissarro’s landscapes have a “sustained and solid workmanship … [They] are surely good for you.”
