Revisiting Gordon Park’s “Segregation Story” Sixty Years Later

LIFE magazine sent Gordon Parks on assignment to 1950’s Alabama and the resultant photos helped make his reputation.Those photos, plus others not published, are the subject of a new exhibition in Atlanta. Not only is it a reminder of the dramatic progress in civil rights but it also illustrates photography’s narrative power, especially where the images carry “the allure of history”.
