A Twist On Whistler In Washington

A 19th century riff on money and art. A London industrialist is called away on business and leaves James McNeill Whistler in charge of renovating his dining room. The result is magnificent – and exorbitant. An unseemly spat ensues. The room is now a ‘must see’ at the Freer Gallery, Washington. To aid preservation, the curtains are pulled back just once per month.
