Wiley is a notable younger American artist whose current retrospective in New York is regarded as a ‘must see’ show. Sadly, that is about the limit of what is agreed. Some critics are up in arms about Wiley’s use of Afro-American men in his paintings. Others imply that he is not sufficiently respectful of the Old Masters whose work he appropriates.
