Oxford – William Morris and Andy Warhol: “Love is Enough”

Warhol is usually thought of as a celebrant of the mass market. However, an exhibition at Modern Art Oxford pairs him with William Morris, 19th century textile designer and socialist, and argues a different view. Both artists were interested in money-making, but the curator argues that they also shared an interest in “democratizing art, giving everyone a voice and a view”. Notwithstanding some historical parallels, the view of Warhol as “deeply politically committed” seems a bit of a stretch. At least one critic is in heated disagreement.with the whole show.
