A prominent Australian artist has been jailed for serious crimes and, in response, some public galleries have removed his art from their walls. ” I am all in favour of historical reassessments … but the moment we start to read our contemporary moral values into an artist’s biography, no matter how justified, and use this as a yardstick in the assessment of their art, I suspect we are on a very slippery path.”
