Summer of Sean Scully
Julie Baumgardner | Cultured | 10th May 2015
Sean Scully is a star attraction at Venice, but the reviews are skimpy – perhaps because there is so much to look at. To get a handle on this artist you cannot go past Robert Hughes’ comment: “Scully’s surfaces fairly breathe deliberation and earnestness. Their light and colour relate to the Old Masters: in particular to Velazquez’s silvery greys… Their gravitas is real.”
