MACAN: Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara

Given its rich cultural heritage, it is surprising that Indonesia does not have a national institution devoted to contemporary art. That is about to change with a privately endowed museum – MACAN – being built in Jakarta. Thomas Bergius, the well-known Asian art scholar and curator will be the museum’s inaugural director.
