Is Painting Dead?

Painting has survived two near-death experiences – the invention of photography in the 1830’s and Duchamp who “privileged ideas over visuals”. This review of a recent book by Suzanne Hudson does not have the bells tolling for painting, but does reflect on its standing relative to other media. “[Paintings are] easy to store…[and] work well enough on the internet: it turned out that painting was, despite itself, the perfect tool.
