Grand dame of American abstraction comes to Tate Modern

Amazingly, Agnes Martin is getting her first retrospective from a major museum in over 20 years. She was one of America’s foremost abstract artists, self-identifying as an Abstract Expressionist. After an early career in New York she decamped to the quiet of New Mexico – as did Georgia O’Keefe and others before her. Her paintings are characteristically tranquil and meditative. An interview with her long time gallerist is here.
